We are excited to announce the following updates to our Learn to Play Hockey and Learn to Skate class programs! Beginning with the August session, we are changing our class names and schedules. This will allow us to simplify the process for those registering and will provide more flexibility for our students and coaches. Following is a brief description of the updated class names and the skills we will teach.
“Learn to Play and Hockey Prep” will be replaced by Hockey 1, Hockey 2 & Hockey 3. Once a child moves through the three-step introductory program, they will be ready to join an organized hockey league.
“Learn to Skate” basic skills classes will now be grouped as Skating 1, Skating 2 & Skating 3 (Little Friends, Stingers, Basic 1-6 & Freeskate will all fall under the 1,2,3 format and are still part of Learn to Skate USA).
Details of each level…
Hockey 1 - Introduction
NOTE: CURRENT HOCKEY PREP PARTICIPANTS WILL GO INTO HOCKEY 1.
This introductory class allows new skaters with little or no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning to skate. This first stage teaches the fundamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for hockey. Skaters will be introduced to forward and backward skating and stops. Fun and games make this experience for your kids positive, enjoyable and memorable. Upon completion of this level, skaters will be able to confidently progress to Hockey 2.
Hockey 2 - Advanced Hockey Skating
Prerequisite: Completion of Hockey 1.
The Advanced Hockey Skating class is designed to build upon the fundamentals of hockey skating. Skaters will learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus. All elements will be taught without a puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and other necessary fundamentals to be successful in hockey practices and game situations. Upon completion of this level, skaters will be able to confidently advance to Learn to Play Hockey 3.
Hockey 3: Learn to Play - Current Jr. Jackets Participants
Prerequisite: Hockey 2.
The Learn to Play class builds upon skating fundamentals and learning the game of hockey while helping children develop character and life skills. After the basics are introduced, each consecutive week builds off the next. Skills stations and small-area games will help challenge and further develop each player. Each week allows for fun, free time at the end. Upon mastering of the skills of this level, children will be able to confidently advance to an organized hockey league.
